Home tour - Soma Rathore's home in Texas

There is a beautiful home somehwere in a tiny town of eastern Texas, created with so much love and warmth by Soma and her husband for their two little girls.

In Soma's words "We are blessed with a home with plenty of sunshine and space. I do not have a specific style, but decorate by what my eyes and my heart tells me :) While I love collecting Buddha and bells, and some other unique things which catches my eyes (and I do treasure and own many things of the past that arouses memories and nostalgia), I like open space in my home. While I love deep rich wood tones, I love the clean cut lines of modern style too. So it is really a mix and match and what feels best to me. But there has to be live plants. A necessity!"

Foyer table displays few gifts and old things that Rathore family treasures.... Here in Soma's word on what foyer table holds "On the right - the white lady is a potpourri holder that belonged to my ma - makes me remember her every time I see it. The tiny photo frame was a gift from my school friends some 20 years back and now holds a photo of the husband of our wedding. The little trinket box in copper was another gift on my bday some 22 years back from my college friends. Brass Ganesha was a gift and it is from a place in Rajasthan where they specialize in these."

Family room fire place : Soma Says "The deer is a recent addition and is named "Paul". I bought it from a grocery store. The wood has beautiful texture and is torched for a burned effect on dark wood."

Soma's love for Buddha is visible through out her home. Soma Says " on the left- the bigger pot belongs to my ma. The smaller one was from New Mexico - a typical art form using horse hair in pottery. On the right -the conch shell is my ma's. The Shiv is a gift from my in laws and the other one is from Egypt got by my dad. The little pinch pot was made by my daughter in school. In the center -
What my kids call the bell for dinner.

This antique door was built by Soma and her husband from an apartment door from Home Depot under $150. Stains, screws, washers, gold paint, moulding and a lot of hammering by their then 1.5 year old daughter for the antique look.

Soma says this as "The right wall" and I can't agree more :).  Their two little girls-pics were taken when they were exactly the same age in the same attire.
